Gena arrives in Moscow and he can't find Cheburashka who promised to come to greet him. He realizes that his small friend cannot read so he takes him to school but the school is under construction. The trickster Shapoklyap turns good again and gets the lazy workers to finish the works on the school.
After Cheburashka fails to meet him at the airport, Gena realizes that Cheburashka does not know how to read and decides to register Cheburashka for school.
